Double Eyelid Surgery

For larger, rounder eyes that give you a more radiant appearance

Double eyelid surgery – whether incisional or non-incisional – is suitable for people with monolids or hooded eyelids, and it works by creating an additional fold in the upper eyelid. During the procedure, the surgeon carefully removes excess skin, muscle and fat to reshape the upper eyelid and create a crease that is both natural-looking and complementary to the patient’s existing facial features. The specific technique used can vary depending on the patient’s anatomy and the desired results.

At Astrid Plastic Surgery, we are known for both our scarless technique and incisional technique, making double eyelid creation one of our most popular signature treatments.

Epicanthoplasty

For wider and more refreshed eyes that enhances your facial balance

Epicanthoplasty is an eyelid procedure designed to address the appearance of narrow (width-wise) or closely spaced inner corners of the eyes caused by the epicanthal fold by widening the area between the inner corners of the eyes. Similar to a double eyelid surgery, an epicanthoplasty can also be performed using either the incisional or non-incisional method. Tiny incisions are carefully placed at the inner corners of the eyes to modify the epicanthal fold either through changing its position or shape. Although this results in a longer recovery time and slightly more scarring, it allows for greater visualisation and more dramatic changes to the eyelid. There are many different techniques described but current techniques achieve the desired effect with minimal visible scars.

Epicanthoplasty can often be combined with double eyelid surgery to target multiple issues at the same time, giving one rounder and wider eyes within a single procedure.

Ptosis Correction

For a rejuvenated gaze and improved vision

Ptosis correction is performed to treat the sagging or drooping of the upper eyelids (ptosis). This can be performed for people who are seeking aesthetic improvements, as well as those who wish to resolve their functional problems caused by the drooping eyelid (obstruction of one’s visual field). Ptosis correction is performed through the careful adjustment of the levator muscle, which is the muscle responsible for lifting the eyelids. In some patients, excess skin and some fat may also be removed, resulting in improved eye symmetry, better visual field, and a more youthful appearance.

Eyebag Surgery

For a more youthful and refreshed appearance

Eyebag surgery, also known as a lower blepharoplasty, is designed to treat puffiness, sagging and excess skin and fat beneath the eyes; as this often results in a tired and aged appearance. With the goal to create a smoother contour beneath the eyes, excess skin and fat will be carefully removed through an incision made just beneath the lash line or from the inside of the lower eyelid. The tranconjunctival avoids a visible scar and prevents lid malposition postoperatively. For patients with excess fat, the fat will be removed and/or repositioned in order to create a smoother and less puffy contour. In some cases, the surgeon may also tighten underlying muscles and remove excess skin in order to create a firmer surface in the undereye area.

Eyelid Fillers

For revitalised eyes using a non-surgical approach

Eyelid fillers are commonly used to treat tear troughs, which are the followed areas extending from the inner corner of the eye all the way to across the lower eyelid. Tear troughs are usually caused by the loss of volume in the undereye area and a decrease in skin elasticity as a result of ageing. Through the use of eyelid fillers, specifically undereye fillers, patients can restore lost volume in the area, regaining a more youthful look without having to go under the knife. However, as fillers are temporary, one must expect to attend touch-up treatments in order to maintain the results.

Dr Jonah Kua is skilled in performing all types of eyelid procedures with the patient's best interests in mind.

Sub-Brow Excision

A sub-brow excision, commonly known a sub-brow lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to subtly elevate the position of the upper eyelids and brows, creating a more youthful appearance. It involves the removal of excess skin and tissue located just below the eyebrows; and can sometimes be combined with other eyelid procedures for optimal effect. Besides making one appear younger and less tired, other benefits include creating a more defined eyebrow arch, correcting asymmetrical brows, and reducing fine lines on the forehead.

Brow Lift

A brow lift, sometimes known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure aimed at revitalizing the upper facial region, which comprises the eyes, brows, and forehead. It addresses issues such as forehead creases, frown lines, and sagging eyebrows. In most cases, the incision is made along the hairline. Through these incisions, the surgeon lifts, selectively removes and repositions the underlying tissues, smoothing out wrinkles and elevating the brows. This results in a more youthful and refreshed appearance for the patient.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting for the upper and lower eyelids can be used to treat volume loss (sunken and hollow eyes) and signs of ageing (under-eye creases, deep tear troughs). Fat grafting involves using one’s own natural fat to restore lost volume and enhance the soft tissue contours around the eye. This delicate procedure also stimulates collagen production, enhancing skin texture and elasticity. The fat is obtained via liposuction and purified before being injected into the eyelid area. However, for patients looking for a non-surgical option, fillers may be a good alternative to consider.
