Single Eyelids (Monolids)
Do you find your eyes too small or tired-looking?
Many East Asians have single eyelids, also known as monolids. This means that there is an absence of a visible crease in the upper eyelid, resulting in an uninterrupted contour from the lash line all the way to the brow. While most people are perfectly contented with their monolids, some may find that it makes their eyes appear smaller than they would like, and wish to make their eyes appear larger and rounder by creating an additional fold in their upper eyelid (double eyelids). While the appearance of double eyelids can be attained through temporary means such as the popular double eyelid sticker, those looking for a permanent solution will have to consider surgery.
Narrow Eyes (Width)
Do you find your eyes too far apart or narrow in width?
Theorised to be a functional adaptation among individuals of East Asian descent, another common feature among East Asians is the presence of the epicanthal fold – a prominent fold of skin that extends from the upper eyelid down to the inner corner of the eye, which can sometimes end up covering a part of it. The result is the eyes appearing too short horizontally. In other cases, the outer corner of the eye may sometimes be deemed too narrow. In some cases, an epicanthal fold can even cause existing double eyelids to become partially or completely hidden, all which can be easily addressed.
Monolids are the most common eyelid concern that we come across at our clinic; and there are very effective treatments available that leave aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting outcomes.
Puffy Eyebags
Do you notice puffiness and sagging around your eyes?
Eyebags underneath the eyes are caused by a combination of factors, including genetics, the natural ageing process, and lifestyle factors such as excessive sun exposure, inadequate sleep and poor nutrition. The skin around the eyes is delicate and thin, making it more susceptible to the effects of ageing and external factors. While some do not mind the appearance of eyebags, or are fine with concealing them with makeup, others might feel that eyebags give them a tired appearance and look for a more definitive and permanent solution.
Droopy Eyelids
Do you notice sagging or drooping of your upper eyelids?
Ptosis, also known as “droopy eyelids,” can impact both the aesthetic and functional aspect of the eyes. Ptosis occurs when the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelids are weakened either due to ageing or genetics (such as underdeveloped muscles), resulting in visible drooping of the eyelids. This results in a perpetually tired appearance; and in some cases, can even partially obstruct one’s vision. Fortunately, ptosis can be easily corrected to refresh one’s appearance and restore their visual field.
